Frequently Asked Questions
Are dermatologists medical doctors?
Yes. A dermatologist is a physician specializing in skin care. After earning a medical degree and completing an internship, a dermatologist receives an additional three years of specialty training focusing on skin, hair, and nails. A board-certified dermatologist means that the dermatologist has completed a three-year residency in dermatology and has passed a rigorous two-part test administered by the American Board of Dermatology.
What kind of training does a Physician Assistant have?
A physician assistant (PA) is a healthcare professional licensed to practice medicine with the supervision of a licensed physician. A physician assistant is concerned with preventing and treating illnesses and injuries by providing a broad range of health care services that are traditionally performed by a physician. Physician assistants conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and write prescriptions.
Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist?
This depends on your particular insurance plan; consult your plan if you are unsure. In many cases, you do not need a referral for a dermatologist.

What kind of sunscreen should I use?
